Children and Families Worker

Do you have a heart for children and families to connect with God and grow in faith? We are looking for a children and families worker to join our exciting ministry in the children, youth and families team.

WORKING HOURS:   Full time role (37 hours p/w)orPart TimeorTerm Time roles (negotiable for the right candidate)

There will be a requirement to work some weekends and evenings.

SALARY:          £22,000 - £24,000 FTE Plus pension contributions.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB

New Life Church Congleton is looking to recruit a Children and Families Worker to lead and develop the children’s ministry and grow and strengthen our well-established work with families both within the church and the community. The vacancy has arisen as a team member is moving on and the successful candidate will join an existing ministry team including two youth workers, a primary schools worker, and many volunteers.

We are looking for someone who is a committed disciple of Jesus with an active spiritual life. Someone who with a heart and passion for children who has a desire that the lost know Jesus and for those with a faith to go deeper with Him and has a desire to see faith grow in the church, in homes and in schools.

OUTLINE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •   To lead and develop the Children’s ministry based at New Life Church.
  •   Develop the ongoing ministry established with families and all age worship.
  •   Work with the primary schools team to present lessons & assemblies.
  •   Support the evangelistic mission of the church with children and families.

KEY TASKS:

  • Take oversight and leadership of the Sunday morning children’s work teams;
  • co-ordinate volunteers and plan material, envision and recruit volunteers; strengthening and supporting the Sunday’s Cool team. Responsible for the administration of the ministry, including rotas, resources, and all other associated administrative tasks.
  • Work with the wider church ministry team to strengthen connections with families and their engagement in church life and worship including all-age services.
  • Re-launching regular Messy Church and leading the Messy Church team.
  • Organising an annual Holiday Club with the team.
  • Supporting parents and carers, offering Parenting for Faith courses, communicating regularly with parents and carers verbally and by email or social media. To support parents in discipling their child and making available up to date resources to families.
  • Taking a Leadership role within the Friday’s Fab children’s group (after school club for 7 -11-year-olds), delivering talks and leading activities; communicating with Friday’s Fab parents.
  • Planning and delivering primary school lessons, assemblies, and prayer spaces with the team.
  • To actively promote safeguarding children by ensuring that the safeguarding policies, procedures and guidelines are followed in all children’s activities, working with the safeguarding co-ordinator.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • A heart for children to connect with God and grow in faith.
  • Experience with working with children (age 0-12).
  • An ability to deliver sessions appropriately to accommodate a variety of ages, needs and cultural backgrounds.
  • Comfortable leading up front, a strong communicator.
  • Able to work independently and to work as part of the broader staff ministry team.
  • Able to motivate and inspire a team of volunteers.
  • Biblically grounded, prayerful and have an active Spirit filled faith.
  • A desire to develop links between church, schools and families.
  • A willingness to continue learning and develop necessary skills.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Competent in basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office, Zoom, Teams and Outlook, and a willingness to learn the use of new software.
  • In agreement with the theology and vision of New Life Church Statement of Beliefs, Vision & Values.

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification for working with children or young people (e.g Christian children or youth work, early years, teaching profession).
  • Experience in managing volunteers.
  • Good understanding of child safeguarding issues, Experience of working with children with additional needs an advantage.

  • Must have a valid ‘Right to Work’ for the UK
  • This post carries a Genuine Occupational Requirement under the Equalities Act 2010
  • This post is subject to a satisfactory DBS check to enhanced level with a check of the barred lists.
  • Working with the church elders as part of the team alongside our primary school’s worker and youth team, family support team and all other ministries and office staff at New Life Church Congleton. The successful candidate will be expected to consider New Life Church as their home church, and fully accept its values and vision.
