Description of Job

The role of Head of Children’s Ministry is to support, train, encourage, and help children aged 0-11 yrs and their parents/ carers to encounter God through church and community. You will be responsible for overseeing the Children’s ministry and the team of volunteers, alongside supporting our missional groups, to deliver an engaging and life-changing programme for our children and their families.

Core tasks:

  1. Training, inspiring, recruiting and co-ordinating a team of volunteers for children's church.
  2. Developing and resourcing a biblical curriculum of teaching across our children's groups. The candidate should also be willing to adapt to using video and or camera where needed.
  3. Leading services where there is multi-generational content and be a voice for children in the planning and executing of all services.
  4. Being a missional presence, building friendships with families on the fringes of church through existing church outreach ministries e.g., through our Stay & Play ministry.
  5. Work with our Generations Team in delivering joined up projects such as holiday clubs, family events and mentoring with the view of connecting with and bringing new families in to the church.
  6. Encourage and oversee the discipleship of all our children from ages 0-11 (which includes overseeing small discipleship groups for children at Key Stage Two age).
  7. Alongside the Worship Director develop children’s worship and use of spiritual gifts.
  8. Hosting and organising children’s residentials for the growth and discipleship of our children.
  9. Offering prayer, pastoral and practical support for families with children of 0-11 years.
  10. Ensure our Safeguarding policy is adhered to in our care of all our children and volunteers. 

Conditions:

  • This is a part-time role (30 hours) equivalent to 4 days per week.
  • The role will include working on Sundays and some evenings as required. Your hours will be spread across the week according to various commitments such as staff meetings.
  • Salary: £22,050 - £22,932 (depending on experience) based on 30hrs per week (FTE £27,562- £28,665) plus 5% employers pension contribution.
  • Associated expenses to be paid.
  • Holiday entitlement: 5 working weeks, plus statutory public holidays and Christmas-week break.
  • There will be a 6-month probationary period. Every 12 months the role will be reviewed as part of a staff development process. Riverside will require the post-holder to undertake appropriate training from time to time and will fund it accordingly.
