Description of Job

Key duties would include:

Strategy, Vision, and Leadership -

  • To work with the Vicar, and Youth and Children’s Steering Group, to map out a vision and develop a strategy outreach to and and pastoral care of children and young people, including planting new congregations
  • To participate in opportunities for personal development and training, as well as prayer and reflection.
  • To recruit, train, support and encourage members of the volunteer leadership team, and to supervise our Pais youthwork apprentice team and other potential interns.
  • To produce and present regular reports of the work and its impact to the PCC and church leadership.

Outreach -

  • To coordinate outreach activities for children and young people, including development of teams and implementation of plans for planting new congregations, as well as Prayer Spaces in Schools
  • To continue to build on the relationship with local primary and secondary schools, as well as other local organisations
  • To envision, resource and equip young people to engage with mission and social action in response to their faith.

Pastoral Care -

  • To encourage children and young people through active commitment as a worshipping member of Christ Church Pennington.
  • To lead our church young people’s groups, including Sunday groups and weekly groups, as well as participation in conferences and youth camps.
  • To develop regular worship opportunities led by the young people


Safeguarding and Administration -

  • To work with the Parish Safeguarding Officer to ensure implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • To work in accordance with various policies including Health & Safety, Safeguarding, and Data Protection.
  • To work with the Fundraising and Income Steering Group to raise funds for the development of youth and children’s work at Christ Church Pennington

Skills and Experience

  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate a growing personal faith and a genuine sense of calling and commitment to youth and children’s ministry.
  • Key skills and experience include the following:
  • Passion for young people and the gospel, and a clear evangelistic focus to their work. Ability to prepare and implement creative teaching programmes and term plans. Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate appropriately to a variety of different people.
  • Understanding of issues facing young people today and how the church might support them in navigating these issues.
  • Ability to work within a team, as well as being self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritise tasks whilst ensuring punctuality and reliability at all times.
  • Ability to produce and present reports in a timely manner.
  • Has a good knowledge of child protection issues, and health and safety issues
  • Ability to identify, train and support volunteer leaders, including creating rotas and systems for volunteers
  • Provide line management for interns
  • Experience of fundraising
  • Proficient, up-to-date use of IT to communicate effectively to young people
  • Ability to navigate a wide range of social media platforms and communication tools

Application

The job is offered with an initial three-year contract with the opportunity to extend into a permanent position.

There will be a probationary period of six months.

Working hours will be 39 hours per week with a requirement to work evenings and weekends, as is necessary for a Youth and Children’s Minister.

This includes working Sundays, with a maximum of 6 Sundays off each year.

Holiday entitlement will be 20 days per year, plus Bank Holidays.

A salary of between approximately £19k to £26k plus pension contributions is offered depending on experience.

There is an Occupational Requirement for the post holder to be a practising Christian in accordance with Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 and suitable references and a DBS check will be required.

Candidates should be in agreement with the Church of England Evangelical Council Basis of Faith.
