The ideal candidate will have a strong personal prayer discipline, a deep connection with Jesus, and the ability to lead the church with grace — building on the strong foundations already in place and guiding the church into its next season of growth and mission.
Key attributes:
- A committed evangelical with the ability to engage respectfully with a range of theological perspectives within the Church of England.
- Strategic leader to build up St James alongside an agreed Mission Action Plan.
- A heart for mission, with creativity and vision in communicating the gospel in ways that are culturally relevant and accessible.
- Able to continue developing work with children and young people.
- A passion for social engagement, with a proactive approach to building meaningful connections within the wider community.
- An ability to grow people’s gifts, including raising up new leaders in a variety of areas.
- A strong advocate for inclusion, ensuring that St James’s remains a welcoming and affirming environment for all people, regardless of background, ethnicity, or life circumstances.
- Able to create a more structured pastoral care system.
- A collaborative leadership style —valuing shared ministry and empowering others.

St James New Barnet
St James's is an Anglican church (Church of England) in New Barnet. We are a friendly church for all ages and backgrounds. Our services are relaxed, and everyone is welcome whether you’ve been going to church all your life, or have never set foot in one before.
We are in the Diocese of St Albans, and part of the Barnet Deanery – our local group of Anglican churches, and enjoy working together with other churches in our area.
We seek to grow in our love for God, to engage with the community and to share the hope we have in Jesus. We know God is alive and relevant today, and that his grace is available for all.
